The Region
Historic, solid, American. For more than two centuries, home owners here have
been proud to stake their claims in this land-capturing the American Dream
from the shores of Lake Erie to the heart of our great state. The northern
Ohio region embraces the Western Reserve, an area with a unique history and
cultural dynamic. Today, this geographic tract encompasses major population
centers (Cleveland, Akron, Canton), interesting college towns (Wooster, Oberlin,
Hiram, Alliance) and charming rural communities.
Cleveland
Downtown Cleveland's skyline, with major complexes such as the Key Center
and the BP America building enhancing our downtown corporate presence. Cleveland
is an unbeatable location for Fortune 500 headquarters. Small businesses,
retail centers, manufacturing and service organizations have capitalized on
the advantages of a North Coast location.
The Rain Forest at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, home to hundreds of tropical
birds, plants and animals, attracts more than a million visitors each year.
The Gund Arena and Jacobs Field sport/entertainment complex became home to
Cleveland's professional basketball and baseball teams in 1994. The North
Coast Harbor development, with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and
the Great Lakes Science Center, has helped make Cleveland a major tourist
destination. In the arts, professional sports, health care and education,
Cleveland is on the frontier of excellence and innovation.
Akron and Canton
Named for the Greek work "akros," meaning "high point,"
Akron was founded in 1825 by Simon Perkins. Perkins recognized the economic
potential of a town at the summit of the Ohio Canal's course. Today, a substantial
portion of America's polymer research is conducted within the "Polymer
Valley," stretching from Akron to Cleveland. With the E.J. Thomas Center
for Performing Arts, the highly respected Akron Symphony Orchestra, Ohio Ballet
and Akron Institute of Art, the city provides its residents with a rich and
varied cultural spectrum. Inventure Place, home of the National Inventors
Hall of Fame, and Canal Park, home of the AA Akron Aeros baseball team, have
recently added more diversity to Akron's many amenities.
Canton, too, enjoys a well-deserved reputation as a city with much to offer.
Contributing to northern Ohio's artistic spectrum, Canton offers ballet, civic
opera, symphony, an art institute and theatrical Players Guild. And of course,
Canton is home to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
With a wealth of available and affordable housing, quality schools and cultural
diversity, northern Ohio offers sophisticated opportunities and small-town
charm. Whether you dream of the bright lights of the city, suburban ease or
the splendor of the countryside-we've got it all.
